Happy Birthday to Meeeeeee
November 28, 2008
25.......yay.

It should be a pretty fun day though, my mother is coming down to do some mega-shopping with me at the One of a Kind Show aka the place where I get to see my old classmates kicking ass in the success department and not working at a bank.  Just kidding! It's the place where they have 10 billion free samples and chocolate covered tortilla chips!

Later tonight, a group of us are going for dinner at The Sultan's Tent for Moroccan food and belly dancers and then out to Fynn's for drinks, drinks and more drinks!

Barfing up my hummus, here I come!

Birthday! Mixer! Exclamation!
November 21, 2008

It case you haven't been informed, my birthday is in a week and I'm going to be the big 2-5. This means you should start buying me gift certificates for botox injections because I've decided I'm one of those people who are afraid of getting old and I only have 4 years left until I start to shrivel up and die.

The only thing preventing me from going into crisis mode is that I really, really, really might be getting a Kitchenaid mixer and we have something fun planned that does not involve a pub, club or bar that only serves beer. So it's ok that the castle and four children I planned on having by now when I was six don't exist because I'm getting a mixer! A pink mixer! Or Ice coloured! I haven't decided yet!

And now I have to get back to working on Brandi's and my business plan! Because being poor sucks!

I love exclamation marks!

Little Black Cloud
November 17, 2008
This past few days have been nothing but a string of unfortunate events which started and ended with a dishwasher. The story is this: I mentioned that A. I hate washing dishes and B. Wish I had more counter space to someone at work. They then informed me that they had a dishwasher with a butcher block top that I could have (for free!) as long as I picked it up from her storage unit.

Like you even needed to ask?

So on Saturday, I booked a Uhaul and enlisted Brandi to help me get it. The people at Uhaul are complete douchebags and made me go all the way out to Scarborough to get it instead of having a truck available at the Uhaul depot that is a two minute walk from my apartment. So really their $19.95 in town rental deal is actually $19.95 + $10 worth of kilometers I would not have used if they had been closer + $15 insurance they 'Strongly Recommend' you have, because if anything happens you are 100% responsible + $12 in gas + tax. We drove our $60 rental to the storage unit relatively problem free except for the once where we got stuck behind another Uhaul truck and caused a huge traffic jam but otherwise arrived without incident. But then it turned out that the person giving me the dishwasher has lost the key to her storage unit. She said she had called a locksmith to come cut it off, which would have been fine if he had bothered to show up and had not driven to London instead.

My co-worker felt completely awful about the whole situation and told me she would get the lock cut and deliver the dishwasher to my apartment in her own truck sometime next week, which happened to be today.  That all went to plan except for the part where I got BUSTED by building maintenance and told we weren't even allowed to have dishwashers.

Crap.

This would have turned out fine since he decided to turn a blind eye except that the elevator was FULL of people and one of them was this horrible chick who decided to FLIP OUT on me when I asked why they weren't allowed. Appartently she has had issues with her plumbing and felt the need to take it out on me.

The cherry on this cake is that you need a special adapter to connect the hose to your sink faucet and the one I bought-which is supposed to be standard-DOES NOT FIT.

Obviously it's cursed and needs to be set on fire to burn the evil out of it.

The Bee
November 4, 2008
I just have to write about how much I love the variety store below our building, because everytime I leave that place I always feel the biggest sense of accomplishment. It's called the Little Bee and they literally have EVERYTHING, but there are rules to shopping at The Bee and you absolutely must follow them.

1. No dairy, meat or cheese products. We have had nothing but bad, expired, curdled luck with these items. Oh and any vegetable other then onions or potatoes. They just look sketchy.

2. ALWAYS check the expiry date. There were five packages of hamburger buns today ranging in dates from Nov 2nd - Nov 9th. I poked each and every package after noticing this and while none of them appeared to be molding yet, I really could feel the difference in freshness.

3. If you don't think they don't have it, keep looking! Sometimes this will take you close to 20 minutes and you will think you have checked every aisle a dozen time but you will eventually find what you need. It's just like an Easter egg hunt.

4. If you've really, really looked and still can't find what you need, ask. One of the employees will come over, reach above their head, rummage around in the crap on top of the shelves and magically pull down your item. This is exactly what happened when we asked for a hacksaw, although we paid $5.99 for it and then found the exact same one at a dollar store three months later.

5. Completely forget about where things would logically be. Olives are next to the cake mix, chilli sauce is between the mayo and popcorn is by the cat food.

6. Always stop by the spice display. They will always have a new one you do not currently have or even know that you needed. It's the epicurean equivilent to collectors cards.

That's it. Those are the rules. But the best part about The Bee is that they have a poster in their window of various meat items, with a crinkle just so, that it makes one of the meat items look exactly like Jessica's Halloween costume. People pose for pictures with it all the time.

Winners!
November 2, 2008
Yay! We won the contest (and a gift certificate to the LCBO!) The highlight of the night was the incredibly drunk, incredibly inappropriate mom at the street party.........I really think she may have scarred her children for life, but the pictures that capture that moment are too inappropriate to post. It was kind of fun to see how much/little Oakville has changed since we lived there, lots of reminiscing about grocery shopping at the Dominion at 4 in the morning, house parties and Sheridan. Our only regret was choosing not to wear our costumes on the GO Train. All Dave really wanted to do was to ask for a ticket to the moon.
